Dress Code

Please respect our dress code

Jewellery
On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school. Except – earring studs in pierced ears, and small objects of religious significance. We ask the children to either remove these objects during PE, games and swimming, or cover them with a plaster (or swimming cap), to stop them from causing injury.

Extreme Haircuts
The Sir Donald Bailey Academy does not permit children to have ‘extreme’ haircuts that could serve as a distraction to other children. e.g. patterns cut into hair.

Footwear
Like you, we want all children to grow into healthy adults. We believe that it is dangerous for children to wear shoes that have platform soles, high heels, or with no straps or laces to keep them in place, so we do not allow children to wear such shoes in our school. Neither do we allow children to wear trainers to school; this is because we think that this footwear is appropriate for sport or for leisurewear, but is not in keeping with the smart appearance of a school uniform. We require all children to wear shoes as stated in the uniform list.

PE/Games
For every PE lesson, children should wear a white t-shirt or polo; black shorts, jogging bottoms or sports leggings; trainers; a black, navy or purple jumper/hoodie. This should be plain or with the school logo but not branded.

ALL CLOTHING MUST BE NAMED

SUPPORT THE SCHOOL UNIFORM

The role of parents and trustees

The role of parents
We ask parents to support the school uniform policy and to ensure that their child has the correct uniform, and that it is clean and in good repair. If any parent has any concerns about the uniform policy, they should speak with the Principal. The Sir Donald Bailey Academy welcomes children from all backgrounds and faith communities. If there are serious reasons, for example on religious grounds, why parents want their child to wear clothes that differ from the school uniform, the school will consider such requests.

The role of Trustees
The Trustees support the Principal with the school uniform policy. It considers all parental concerns about the uniform policy and liaises with the Principal to ensure that the policy is fair and dealt with sensitively. It is the Trustees’ responsibility to ensure that the school uniform meets all regulations concerning equal opportunities. Trustees ensure that the school uniform policy helps children to dress sensibly, in clothing that is hardwearing, safe and practical.

Children not in correct uniform
It is our expectation that all children come in the correct uniform. Should any parent not follow this guidance we will ask parents to comply and, if needed, arrange a meeting to discuss any serious reasons why correct uniform isn’t being worn.
