Welcome to Year 6

Our curriculum news & blog

Year 6 is an incredibly hard year as the children work towards their SATs. This year, SATs will take place on the week beginning 13th May 2019. The children will sit tests in reading, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and maths.

For the majority of the year, we study World War Two including evacuation, rationing, the Blitz and the Holocaust. As part of this topic, we go on many exciting trips. The first trip we go on is to Coventry Cathedral to learn all about how Coventry was affected by the Blitz during World War Two. We also go to the Holocaust Centre in Laxton where children learn how the Jews were mistreated. The trips are always thoroughly enjoyed by all children and deepen their understanding of the topic.

At the end of the year, we go on our fantastic residential trip to Cloughton. This year, we are lucky enough to be going for a whole week. How exciting! While we are in Cloughton, we will visit many nearby attractions including the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Eden Camp, Scarborough Sea Life centre and Robin Hood’s Bay.

For the end of the year, we are planning a trip to watch a professional show to help us prepare for our leavers’ performance. We will be working hard to put this together during summer term.
